What is MUN?

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation and academic competition in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. MUN involves and teaches research, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

What Is BENINMUN?

The Benin Model United Nations is the BENINMUN Association’s flagship annual event, welcoming delegates for four days of intensive debate and exciting social events. Our 2nd edition will take place from 7th to the 11th August 2019.

What are the official languages of the conference?

The official languages of BenMUN are French and English.

What happens after I register?

Following registration, the BENINMUN Secretariat will review your application and either approve or decline it. Please note rejections are rare, but may become more frequent as capacity is neared. As we maintain beginner, intermediate and advanced committees, we cater to a wide variety of experience with Model United Nations and debate. If approved, you or your delegation will be given some days from approval to make payments. If payment is made successfully, you or your delegation will be admitted to the conference. Thereafter you or your delegation will be given a set of countries to represent in specified committees. Each participant will then have time to prepare themselves for the conference, researching their topics and reading BENINMUN’s help guides.

How do I make payment for the conference?

Payments of delegate fees have to be made through on our bank account, or through Western Union Money Transfer, MoneyGram, Ria or Ecobank Rapid Transfer. Recipient’s details will be emailed to you when we are responding to your delegate application.

Can I attend BENINMUN alone or do I have to be part of a larger delegation?

You can register as a delegate alone or as a delegate and be part of a larger delegation.

I have never participated in Model United Nations before. Can I still attend the conference?

Committees at BENINMUN are divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced. For this reason you are welcome to attend even if you have little or no experience.

How do I prepare for the conference?

Once allocated a country to represent and a committee to debate in, you will have ample time to familiarize yourself with the topics of discussion and the ways of Model United Nations.

Study guides for the topics debated in a specific committee will be made available. BENINMUN also has a number of more general help guides to assist delegates in their preparation.

Can I represent my own country?

Individual delegates are not allowed to represent their own country and the delegations are not allowed to represent the country of their school/institution.

Can BENINMUN provide me with an invitation letter to show my school/university?

The BENINMUN Secretariat is happy to provide invitation letters to persons/delegations that have registered, been approved, and have paid their fees. Invitation letters are commonly used to justify absence from school or university.

Can BENINMUN provide me with an invitation letter to support my visa application to the Republic Benin?

The BENINMUN Secretariat is happy to assist persons/delegations in obtaining visas to the Republic Benin in order to attend the conference. Please note this can only be supplied if a delegation has registered, been approved, and made payment in full.

What does the conference cost and what happens with the money?

For delegates, the fee is due on registration and is non-refundable. The money will be used for providing you with conference materials, paper, badges, and catering. The fee cover :

  • the participation in the conference;
  • materials, placards, certificates, conference background guide;
  • transport to all conference locations;
  • Breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, tea, and cake for the coffee breaks during the conference and entrance to all social events.

Rest assured that all catered meals are Halal certified; and beverages (including snacks and water bottles)

Are the money transfer costs included in the fees payment?

No, they are not included. You should add the transfer costs into the registration fee

Are the social events included in the payments?

The fees of the social events are included.

What’s not included?

Everything else particularly your travel expenses in and out of Benin Republic

Does BENINMUN provide refunds?

Unfortunately, we do not provide any refunds. Generally, if a single delegate is unable to attend, he or she can be replaced by another person from their institution and be refunded by the replacement. BENINMUN is not involved in such transactions.

I never received my certificate from BENINMUN 2018. How can I get it?

First of all, BENINMUN only administers certificates at the closure of the conference. For BENINMUN 2018 certificates, please email register@beninmun.org, stating your name, your institution, the country represented and the committee you were a part of. If possible, please include your old delegation ID number.

Are the late registrations accepted?

Yes, late registrations are accepted. Fees and final late registration date can be found in the payment details.

Does BeninMUN provide refund?

Unfortunately, we do not provide any refunds.

Are transfer costs included in the payment?

No, they are not included. You should add the transfer costs into the registration fee.

Are the social events included in the payments?

The fees of the social events are included.
